Top Ten New Parent Books! Books to read during your pregnancy!

As someone who meets tons of new parents I try never to give too much parenting advice. I am very much not-an-expert in parenting, sleep habits, eating habits, behavior management or just life in general even after having three children of my own. I have found that trial and error (lots of errors) works most the time. Every baby is different, every family chooses routines, feeding and sleeping habits that will work for them. Sometimes a little professional advice or cute quips will help on a particularly bad day or conquering a dreaded milestone like sleep regression.

Book Stores are one of my favorite places to just hang out in the quiet. Pre-children you can do that. After children, you can go for story hours, mom dates and to buy lots of books you will put on your shelf and not have time to finish.

Here are some of the top reasons why I think you need to book a maternity session ASAP!!!

Every pregnancy is unique! If this is your first of fourth baby, your children will love to look back at these images to see what they looked like while they were growing with mommy!
Pregnancy is fleeting. Those last ten weeks can feel like forever but I assure you, when it is over, your body will slowly return to normal and you will forget the pregnancy discomforts. These maternity images serve as tangible memory of these weeks of your life that were so important in the growth of your little one.
This is a day just for you! Let me get your professional hair and makeup done. I will dress you in the most flattering dresses, bodysuits and outfits to make you feel like a princess for a day. Most everything about pregnancy (and everything after baby arrives) is about baby. A maternity session is just for you! It is for moms to be the center of attention. Mom gets to call the shots. Mom gets to feel beautiful, sexy and strong.
Your pregnancy glow! I know you don’t feel this way everyday but there is a something incredibly beautiful about glowing pregnant woman. It is my job to capture this in an image you can look back on and remember your own beautiful glow.
Your little one will see these images when they are older. You will tell them that they grew in mommy's belly. How wonderful will it be to be able to look at these images together and show them exactly what you both looked like at the time?

5 Tips for a successful (and sleepy) Newborn Photography Session

5 Tips for a successful (and sleepy) newborn session.

As a newborn photographer in Kansas City, my goal is to make your baby as relaxed and comfortable during their newborn session as possible. These little humans are just starting to learn the world around them. We put them in little outfits and move them all around while trying to keep them sleeping. These are a few tips that I have learned that have helped me over the last 9 years of taking photos of infants.

1. Fill their bellies! A full baby is a sleepy baby. Babies go into what we call a "milk coma". Their little bodies and fingers start to relax and they get into a sleepy and smiley REM sleep. I always ask parents to feed just before they step out the door so that the car ride gets them into a nice deep sleep.

2. Warm them up! We ask babies to arrive in warm pajamas with no onesie so that we can easily take off their outfit to get started. We suggest even an extra receiving blanket over the top on cooler days. In the studio I will also have the heat turned on and a small heater just for baby. They are accustomed to being snuggled up and warm so we like to keep them that way as we get started. Little Bum Baby has some adorable sleeper and soft wrap sets!

3. The SHUSHER! I have had a shusher for years! I used it with my own babies and it's the greatest thing ever. You may ask, do I really need another gadget that just shushes? The answer is a solid YES! Just buy it and send me a sweet thank you note later.

4. This is optional but can be a HUGE help as we transition from pose to pose. The pacifier. I love them. I recommend them to any parent who maybe needs their sanity back at 2am. My favorite will always be the simple Philips Avent Hospital Soothie. They are the most readily available. If baby drops it at the park; no big deal, no online ordering, pick one up at Walmart, CVS, Dollar Store. They are everywhere! I find that *almost* all babies will take them. Sometimes it takes a little coaxing. Pro-tip: Put the nub in the babies mouth and rub against the roof of their mouth while holding a finger on their chin. If you want to try out some other options or your baby is a no-go on the Avent, here you can get a sample pack!

5. Lastly! If a baby won't settle, wrap them up! A nice soft wrap from Red Owl Props is my go-to! They have every color you could dream of and are soft and stretchy! There are so many cute ways to wrap up your little bundle of joy. At home I am sure mom and dad appreciate a good swaddle as well.

As many of my friends and followers know, we recently relocated to Kansas from Colorado. 2020 has changed many businesses. My goals of moving to Kansas, opening a storefront studio and continuing to create baby art has evolved over the last several months. For now, my studio is a home-based business. I am taking on location and outdoor sessions but am also offering my studio maternity, newborn, milestone and cake smash sessions in my home studio. This allows me to have all of my stuff (and its A LOT of stuff) to be in one place and easily accessible for my sessions. This is the best place for me right now during this slow, rebuilding time.

Here is a little glimpse of what is looks like to have a session with me in my home studio. This is my shooting space and waiting area. It comes with a TV and wi-fi to entertain any of the little ones that are tagging along.

My storage area is full of all the props, drops, outfits, wraps and rugs your heart could desire. While I try to pre-plan every session sometimes I have to pull out some extra stuff to create the perfect set.

Today's sweet baby is now almost 5 months old. This was the last newborn session before our shutdown back in March. While we are booking again here in Lansing, KS, it made me so sad to miss out on months of squishy babies. I know for moms it was a hard time to professionally document their new little ones. Being a newborn photographer in the digital age offers us so many opportunities and challenges! As artist we are inclined to take a piece of work and keep improving and making it better while maintaining the true subject. I tend to edit images as true to color and reality as possible. Babies are of course perfect just the way they are. Naturally they are going to have some flaky skin, some baby acne, some redness and sometimes bruising. I am not only a photographer here in Colorado Springs, I am also a digital artist. Through the use of Photoshop and Lightroom I seek to create a beautiful image that can be printed and maintained forever.
Newborn photographers have a few extra expenses and obstacles than natural light, outdoor and family photographers. For me, I have invested thousands of dollars in cute props, blankets, backdrop, rugs, outfits and then all the studio equipment necessary to safety capture your newborns. Along with allll of this equipment I also have taken the time to intensely understand posing and photoshop through continuing education over the last 6 years. One of my main sources of income, since we are a military family that moves a lot, has been working with other newborn photographers as a free-lance editor. I take their images and process them through Lightroom and Photoshop. While it isn't a glamorous job and requires me to sit at a computer far more than I would like, I have been able to learn from all of them and am constantly striving to create new and better art. Newborn babies are not just a subject in a photo. They need to be snuggled and shushed and fed and changed. I keep my studio area around 75-80 degrees so they don't get startled by any chill. I also am sure to take breaks if a little one starts showing hunger signs or gets upset with me keeping them from their peaceful slumber. I know that my job is to not only get a perfect image but also make sure that you are comfortable with me handling your most precious baby.

What's included in your newborn portrait session with Shelly Pray Photography?

I go back in forth in my sales and pricing and trying to find out WHAT DO YOU WANT!?!?! I don't know. It seems in recent years that people just want the "digitals." I want to see the canvas on your wall, the album on your coffee table, the print on your desk at work. So I am changing things up again. I know, I know. If it works, don't change it.... Well I want it to work better for everyone so I will be offering both print and digital sessions. I see a variety of pricing structures here in Colorado Springs, CO. I do believe in quality over quantity for sure! I never expect a client to print 25 images and hang them on their wall from one session. I do hope they pick one or two perfect ones and do just that. Print them big and display them for others to love too! I know for newborns you want everything captured. An album is a perfect place to keep all of these images forever. A photo box with losse 5x7 prints that you could put in a frame! Perfect! Some photographers may bait you in with 50 images! I can't do that. I can't give you the variety and quality on 50 images. I want to give you a few perfect sets! I know that I can take the same picture with 7 different hats and headbands but you will only pick one to print. I promise. Let's make that one perfect! It is not about how many. Its about making your baby look, comfortable, relaxed and adorable. It is about catching that .3 second baby smile.. not snap, snap, snapping! Lots of families print their family and sibling photos and those are definitely my favorites. Sometimes I have parents say, we dont need them or I do not feel camera worthy right now. You are beautiful! That baby someday will see these images. I am sure to capture that new baby LOVE in there! Let me dress you, pull down your pony tail and make magic! You will go on during this first year to capture your baby a million different ways. This first professional shoot will document this fleeting time that quickly fades in your memory. Your baby changes so much in the first few weeks and months. Do this early. Print them to remember. Let me help you.

Newborn props and outfits are expensive. You do not need to go searching the globe or ETSY to find the perfect outfit. I tell all of my clients that all I need you to do is shower and show up.... and the shower is optional. I do love getting mom and dad into the photos so the shower helps... I do offer wardrobe for mom as well as siblings and dads when needed. My dad and sibling wardrobe is limited I do have it available just in case. I really don't want you to stress about your session. I own THOUSANDS of dollars in props.
The next things people talk about is going to be price. Price seems to vary greatly in the photography industry. It all depends on someones income, investment and overhead. I tend to think I am pretty cheap... or middle of the road. My overhead includes many subscriptions, photoshop, website, business insurance, taxes, equipment upgrades, education and of course new props. All these things are not needed to understand that this is also an art. I have devoted a whole lot of time, education and talent to get to where I am with my art. Newborn photography in particular is soooo much harder than people can imagine. Babies don't just sleep and pose themselves all cute... and they poop a lot. Yada, yada, this is my business, my sole source of income and I treat it as such.
"My friend is going to take some photos for free." Please don't. We all started somewhere. Absolutely! I did that. I asked friends to use their babies for free and I am so glad they trusted me. I had 2 children when I started. I knew baby things but I still was awkward the first 50 babies or so. And if you trust your friend, let them practice safely with your little one. But these moments can not be recreated. So book with a professional if you have the means. This is not the place to go free. I am not that high horse "you get what you pay for" person... But.....
You get what you pay for. Even if you choose to go to someone cheaper. Remember that this is something that will last you forever.... Hopefully you are printing these photos and hanging them on your wall or in your office and looking at them often. Sometimes I look at photos of my own baby and I can't believe that is them as tiny humans. They change so quickly. Do yourself a favor. Do some research. Find what style fits you. Find a photographer that can deliver that. Make it work, put it on a credit card, save during pregnancy, register for cash towards it at your baby shower. I assure you beautiful photos are way better than a diaper genie that you will literally use for 2 weeks and throw away.

So you are expecting?! What an exciting time! I am excited for you. I remember each time I found out I had a little one on the way and the millions of emotions that you are feeling. One thing I loved doing while I was pregnant was documenting what was going on with my body, emotions and thoughts about each of my little one's. Each one is unique. Each one is special and each one will grow so quickly that these tiny details will fade.

One thing I regret is failing to document my first 2 babies by a professional photographer. I do have a million photos of each of them. I have them on cell phones and old computers and somewhere on the interwebs but I do not have these types of images.

I know when choosing a photographer there are a lot of things to think about. Here are a few questions you should ask when you are looking for the perfect match!

1. Can I see your previous work?

Most professional photographers will have a website available for you to browse through their work. Every newborn photographer has a different style and vision. Do you love their work? Can you envision your little one in the poses and sets that are available to you. Do you love how they are perfectly posed with mom or dad or the siblings? This is where you can find out if you have an emotional attachment to this style of photography. Not every photographer is going to have the same vision as you and that is OK! There are lots of amazing people out there and one is sure to speak to you!

2. What do other clients have to say about you?

Ask for references or find out if you can view their reviews on google, their website or facebook. Sometimes you can find some red flags or you can figure out that this may be a good fit for you!

3. What is your level of experience?

Ask how long they have been in business, and what education they have. An experienced newborn photographer will know all of the industry secrets about posing, soothing and most importantly safety for your newborn. Newborn photography is not as easy as clicking a button. Ask if the photographer has mentored or had any formal training. Likewise, ask if they are a state registered business and are insured. I know this may seem strange but there are many "new" or inexperienced "photographers" out there that are running illegal "businesses." Be mindful that not every photographer is going to deliver a safe and quality experience for your and your most precious newborn.

4. How much am I going to spend?

Newborn photography does require an investment. The cost will depend on location, what is included in your session, the photographer's income and their own investment into this business. Try your best to think that these images will be with you for a lifetime. I hear so many times "I want a photographer that doesn't cost and arm and a leg." We invest in what we value. For some people that may be a new set of curtains or subscription to People magazine. We spend a lot of money on frivolous things. Sometimes it is a car payment... or a mortgage payment to get something that is going to last you a LIFETIME! How many things do you keep forever? Pictures of your newborn are going to be used in their high school yearbook, their wedding, when their first child arrives so they can compare their tiny nose and toes. Try not to make it just about the money. Ask about payment plan, credit car payment or save through the 9 months you are waiting for that little one to arrive. I promise it is worth it.

They wanted to incorporate a few "Army" sets and I think we totally nailed it. With most sessions I am aiming to get 4 baby focused sets as well as parent and family images. I try to give you a variety to images and poses so that you can choose what will work best with your budget, wall decor and gift prints for family
One important part of newborn photography is keeping baby safe and comfortable. While we did get this tiny peanut to fit in dad's pocket this image is a composite. I used two images to create this simple, safe and comfortable "pocket" pose!
Snuggly parent poses are always the most loved and printed images. I try to get an emotional connection as well as simple, sweet and timeless images to last a lifetime. Many times I choose to wrap baby to keep them most settled during these poses. Again the bucket and flag images below are a composite of two images. Baby is never left unattended and constantly spotted or held by my assistant. There is never any reason to risk baby's safety for a photo. This is for both photographer and parents. Never try to balance baby on something for the sake of Instagram. Hire someone that is going to take the time to ensure your baby's safety and has the experience to capture these images.

When is the best time to book your newborn photography session? I always like to think the sooner the better! Most clients contact me while they are still pregnant. I recommend checking my availability between 20-30 weeks. This is also a great time to think about Maternity portraits. I offer both studio and outdoor maternity sessions to capture that special time before your little one arrives.

Newborn Sessions are scheduled by your due date. I schedule only 8-10 newborns a month. The actual session date will be scheduled once your little one arrives. I like to have you into the studio between day 8-15 for best results. I like to provide you with all the information that you need to make your sessions successful. This includes planning the perfect colors, props and sets. I provide everything you will need but am open to using special items or heirlooms that you can provide.

My home studio in Colorado Springs offers a sitting area, bean bag set, white family set as seen above and all of the equipment needed for a successful newborn session. With 3 children of my own, I know how hard it is to get up and out when you have a new little one. For older siblings I do have a TV and books available as well as free wi-fi all in the same room. I want you to be able to sit on the couch and relax but also be able to see everything that is going on during the session.

Welcome to the world Baby K! This sweet little man came to me at 10 days new. He was happy to be all wrapped up and snuggled by his big sisters. Can I tell you I was not prepared for all this cuteness?! Mom contacted me about a fruit bath with her 6 month old and I was definitely thinking, "this won't work." How could a 6 month old sit in a tub let alone be eating fruits all my himself.

Well..... This little dude is on an adventure of Baby Led Weaning. I follow him on instagram so I have been watching all the cool things he has been trying over the past month and I have to say I am pretty impressed.

This was a new experience for him in that his food was floating around him. He didn't waste any time and tried all of them. Lemons, oranges, limes and grapefruit!

I am so glad that mom and dad chose me to help document this time in his life. It really was fun, unique and adorable! If you can't tell, he settled on oranges being his favorite!

I am pretty far behind on my blogs. This little dude was actually born about a year ago... but due to a busy last year I took a while off of blogging. I am planning to get back into some writing, adding some interesting content to each session in hopes that someone finds my babbling useful. Today I am going to talk about the newborn phase. I have many first time parents that are thrown into this new gig with no idea what to do next. Yes, you can read all the books but the second you walk out those hospital doors you are on your own. You google, text your mother and you hope for the best. So here are a few tips and a few links that maybe you will find helpful. First, watch this video before you go into labor. Watch it again before you leave the hospital. Ask your nurse, or pediatrician to go through putting your baby in the carseat before you are discharged. Car Seat VIDEO And I don't mean the 5 minutes before you walk out the door. Try it more than once and have the nurse check it for you. It is new. You want your baby to be as safe as can be so please read the directions, watch a video, get some professional advice and do it right every time. Next, I get lots of questions about belly buttons. Smells, leaks, when does it fall off. I am not an expert but I have seen some weird stuff... Here is some information from the Baby Center on that exact topic. What to do with the BELLY BUTTON
Your first few days home will be all about feeding and sleeping. It will be about how much, do you think they have enough, they just spit up, do I need to supplement. Here is a little information that might be helpful. Eat, Sleep Poop Advice

I don't like to reinvent the wheel by paraphrasing or rewriting someone else thoughts but I feel like these people here have some worthy, "what I wish I had know about newborns" advice so check it out. What I wish I knew advice.

Last, I am a newborn photographer and I don't pretend to be a doctor. Sometimes during a session here in my home studio I will talk to clients about my babies, things I have learned, things I think may be helpful to them but I will always direct you to ask your pediatrician for medical advice. Do I really need professional head shots?

The short answer is YES! And here are some reasons why.

1. You have a job

Many professionals these days can benefit from having a good quality headshot. You should be aiming to project a level of professionalism a step above a cropped family photo from last years family reunion. Whether you are a doctor, lawyer, real estate agent, home based or small business a professional headshot will help you to stand out.

2. You don’t have a job

Looking for a job? An important part of marketing yourself is being able present yourself professionally in the modern competitive job market. Just as you wouldn’t show up to an important job interview in ripped jeans and with dirt all over your face, why would you show potential employers a photo of you at anything less than your best? A professional headshot does not guarantee you a job but it can help employers want to meet you and help you to get a foot in the door.

3. You’re single

But then again, there can never be too many photos of your little ones. From a big yawn to 10 sweet little toes, they will never be at this stage again. We can't stop time but we can freeze it for a moment. Mr. Graham loved being snuggled and was able to get through the most adorable sibling photos with his big sister Amelia! At 22 months it is always hard to get a great shot but she was just perfect! I love working in a military community and being able to incorporate Dad's pilot helmet and cover in these images.

A new sweet babe at not even 24 hours old. You cannot deny the emotion of the first few days. This little man decided to make a slightly late arrival just 2 days after his due date. Mom and Dad were anxiously awaiting this little one. They chose not to find out the gender before and Dad really wanted to be the one to announce it. He said in the moment, when he realized it was a boy, he just froze! He was sure it would be a girl like big sister Amelia! They were so happy to welcome Graham, an 8lb 3oz, healthy, baby boy on February 24th. He will celebrate his birthday just one day before Dad! Amelia is still not quite sure what she thinks of this new little human but after a few minutes she warmed up to him. An exciting time here in Kansas! This was my first newborn in the new home-studio. This is my third time moving my business and it is getting a little easier to get started. I appreciate all the referrals, likes and shares! Every one helps.

I met this momma at a Fort Leavenworth Family event and I am so glad she chose me to capture her gorgeous baby. Baby Quinn was born on August 7th, 2016, weighing 10lbs 3oz and was 22 inches long. She is the youngest of five children, having three older sisters and one big brother! She will certainly be loved by all. I hope to meet the whole family again in the fall for some family portraits!

I love the colors that we used for this set. I haven't used this peach in a long time and forgot how much I loved it. It matched her skin tones perfectly. It really helped that she had flawless skin! Love those kind of babies. The bonnets and skirt set are from No. 2 Willow Lane.

This was my first session here in Kansas! I am so excited to have my camera out and taking client photos again! I was very honored to capture this family as they all met here in Kansas from all over the world. They traveled from New York, Virginia and Germany! As a multi-generational Army family it is not surprising that they live all over the globe. Dad is a retired colonel, all three son's are serving/have served as well as one daughter in law! A true American family. Rachel (Veteran/Army Wife/Businesslady) is also the owner/photographer at Blue Hydrangea Photography in Northern Virginia! I love working with fellow photographers and am always so happy when they choose to book with me! We shot at a beautiful location on Fort Leavenworth and although it was over 90 degrees and super humid we made it work in less than an hour! All the kids were awesome and never complained. It is always an honor to be asked to capture another photographer's family. I met Nicole a little over a year ago through our local photography group in Buffalo. I was so lucky to have a great group of local ladies that were there to encourage and motivate each other. They will all be greatly missed as we have since moved to Kansas.

I was in the middle of our move process when Ms. Paisley arrived. I was with Mom, Dad and Grandma as Paisley came into this world. Birth Photography is one of the most amazing and personal experiences. I know it is not everyones priority but it is so amazing to look back and remember this intense and emotional journey. I will be blogging a little bit more about that experience as well as soon as mom sees the images herself and approves everything. As it is a personal journey, I want all of my clients comfortable with whatever is released to the internet community.

The formal portraits! If you look back on my blog you will find Maternity and Fresh 48 images from this lovely family. I am so glad that her mom and dad chose me to capture this amazing time in their lives. She actually booked months ago before we knew we would be moving to Kansas. As her due date was the day our movers were at the house and she still hadn't arrived I was getting nervous I would have to miss it! Luckily she came on July 4th and then was able to do her Newborn Portraits at only 6 days old! She was so super sweet and sleepy. Just perfect for posing and never made a peep. I only saw a glimpse of her eyes as she smiled in her sleep. So glad to have captured these tiny moments that mom and dad can look back on forever.

I was waiting on eggshells for this little darling to arrive. Mom and Dad hadn't found out the gender before birth and they were so excited to finally meet their baby. Ms. Tenley decided to go past her due date so she could be a Independence Day baby! She definitely made mom and dad's holiday weekend a bit more exciting.

Capturing the first days of baby's life is always such an amazing experience. I always think of the Fresh 48 as peeking into a hospital room and watching two people change into mom and dad. I know they become mom and dad long before that but it just feels magical. Mom and dad are just discovering baby.

At the time we did his portraits he was still only 37 weeks gestation! He was a bit touchy as he had been "on the outside" for many weeks but he let me pose him like a newborn!

This sweet little boy sure gave me a run for my money at his session! You can't tell but we had to work hard to get this little one to close his eyes and stay that way. Mom said up until day 12 they never saw his eyes but boom on day 13 when he came to see me, he woke up and has been waking for longer periods every day since! I am always up for a challenge and luckily had an assistant to come help me soothe and pose that day. We were able to work through quite a bit and as you can see Mr. Benjamin is just adorable. He came back today to buy some prints and I can't believe how much he has grown in just the past couple weeks! Enjoy these sweet images and leave mom and dad some love and congratulations!

Welcome to the world Mackenzie! After having two boys, mom and dad have welcomed this beautiful baby girl! At just over 6 pounds, she was just a peanut! She was a very alert little girl at only 4 days old. I always find when photographing newborns that I like to wait about two weeks so that they are getting into a feeding and sleeping routine. My goal was to use a little more pink in this session but as I was traveling and didn't have much with me, of course Mackenzie quickly decided pink was not her color and we had to switch it up. I love the neutrals and whites. It is just simple and baby focused.

Another gorgeous little boy. It took me a while to get this on the blog but he is so cute! When Mr. Keon came to the studio, his mom told me he never sleeps... and she was not lying. He was not the easiest baby to work with but he was so adorable. You can tell that even though he didn't want to snuggle quietly in my 80 degree studio he did catch some zzz's. I usually do win when these little ones put up a fight because they are babies... and they can only stay awake so long. Especially with swaddling and the magic of the shutter. If you don't have one and you have a new baby, you should get one.

My completely unsolicited newborn advice: Snuggle them. Swaddle them. Shush them. Smell them. Let grandma watch them so you can nap. My advice beyond this is questionable. But I will share it anyway.... 1. Write down your birth story. You will think that you could never forget the emotion, and let's face it, the pain from that day, but you will. These memories will fade. Luckily for you, you have photos from when your baby girl was only 12 hours old. And probably 10 million iPhone photos. You can look back and see that she had beautiful eyelashes even on the day she was born. 2. Print these photos. They are all over the internet right now and on your iPhone6 but in 10 years when we we are on iPhone16 they may not be there anymore. Put them in a book. Put them in your baby box or album or wherever you are throwing the baby's umbilical cord stump and first hospital hat and that tiny white shirt that the hospital puts on them that she will never wear again. The one you see in these photos. 3. Trust yourself. You will have lots of questions about baby. Like, is the color of baby's poop normal? She hasn't eaten in 6 hours, should I wake her up? The interwebs will give you every type of answer you could imagine. Just trust yourself... or ask a doctor. FYI, baby poop comes in a rainbow of colors... and never wake a sleeping baby. See, there is some of my questionable advice written on the interwebs, so it must be true.

4. This is a ridiculously emotional time. I remember bringing home my first baby and thinking "how in the world are they letting me take this tiny human home with me when I have no idea what to do with it." You will have lots of feelings. Good and bad. Not just about baby but you will reflect on your life, your family, your husband and how you got to be a mom. It is a roller coaster. Give yourself a few months to even out again. You can feel 10,000 emotions in a day. Most aren't real. So eat some chocolate, take a nap and see how you feel.

5. These first few weeks will feel so long. Up all night, tired all day... but when she turns a month old I assure you, you will say, "how has it been a month"... "how has it been 6 months?" I am at the point where I think, how has it been 6 years!? Enjoy it. Maternity leave is made for snuggling baby and taking naps. Its ok to say no to visitors. Its ok to do nothing and not get out of your PJs all day. 6. There is no right way. If you want to use cloth diapers, do it. If you want to breastfeed, do it. You want to use bottles, do it. You want to use cry it out, do it. If you cry more than your baby during cry it out, don't do it. People will judge no matter what you do. Figure out how you can make it through the day and make it through the day with the least amount to tears, by you and baby. 7. This is the most life changing thing that will ever happen. Good and bad awaits. You will mostly remember the good stuff and the bad stuff will be funny to look back on. <3

When I think of winter in Buffalo, NY, I do not picture sunny warm days in February and green grass! This year had been unbelievable and I am not complaining! I have loved the sunny days, playing outside with the kids and no shoveling, cleaning the car and all that yucky stuff that comes with the beautiful white snow. So the only downside to this "el nino" is that the beautiful winter sessions that we are used to have to be improvised a bit. Why not take it to the beach for a gorgeous sunset. The sun was super intense with very little place to hid behind these bare trees. I just love all the light leaks, sun bursts and color. I can't wait to meet this little one in a few short weeks!

I love capturing a growing family! Maternity sessions mean a newborn session is just around the corner. This is a surprise gender baby! I am excited to find out of if it is a boy or girl. I think it is a boy because as we were doing their session I saw several little toads jumping around in the field and on the trails at Amherst State Park. The sun was trying to come through the clouds and we were able to get a few perfectly golden sun shots! We walked all around, in the water, in the fields and through the woods.
